All of my love, which is nothing to hide

Last night, Tony and Ari went to my parents' house for dinner, but I opted to stay home and get some things done. I have a freelance project that I need to get done this weekend, plus I'm supposed to be doing a dramatic reading for church Sunday, and I'm nowhere close to having it memorized. Those 2 big things, added to all the other little things that need to get done were stressing me out, and I told Tony as much. I was so preoccupied with thinking about my to-do list that I didn't even have time to dwell on the fact that I would hardly see Ari. Tony seemed to feel bad about that, and kept offering to stop by the apartment before he went to my parents', so that I could see her. I told him not to worry about it, thinking he would get to the apartment long before I would, and there was no point in him hanging around. But when I got home, he was there. He said he needed to stop by and restock the diaper bag (he'd been out doing some errands). Ari was asleep in her carseat, and only woke up a little before she and Tony left. And of course, she was asleep when he got home. I took her out of the carseat to put her to bed, and she fussed a little when I disturbed her, but went right back to sleep.

Last night I was working on a freelance project and Tony was on the computer. I realized that I needed to e-mail the person I was doing the project for to ask him a question, so I called out to Tony, "Hey, can you do me a favor, since you're online?"

"What?" he asked.

"Send an e-mail to my e-mail address, and in the subject line, just write 'e-mail Bert.'"

"OK." He paused as he did that. "That's it?"

"Yeah, thanks," I replied, and got back to work.

A few hours later, I got online and saw Tony's e-mail. I don't know what prompted me to open it, since I thought it was just a blank e-mail. But I did open it, and this is what I saw....

I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"What is this?" I asked, already smiling.

"Aww, you weren't supposed to see that until tomorrow. I figured you would check e-mail at work and see it then." He smiled, but sounded a bit disappointed.

"I'm sorry. I was planning to get online later tonight--I just didn't want to forget to e-mail him." I paused for a moment, and then asked, "How long did it take you to do this?"

"A while."

"Did you type that all by hand, or did you copy and paste it?"

"By hand. And then I had to go back and highlight all those different words. And I made the e-mail screen as large as I could, so that when you saw it, it would fill the whole screen."

I smiled. "Thank you," I said simply.

He winked at me. "You're welcome."

I clicked "Reply" and wrote...

ditto.

:D

(Kind of a private joke between us.)

That e-mail meant so much to me. Just the fact that he sat there at that computer, for so long, typing that all by hand and adding bold print in a little pattern... Anyone can run to the store and buy a Hallmark card, but to spend all that time writing 3 simple words over and over, just to make me smile... it made my day, my night, my week.
